Description
The Red Garden Tiger Moth Plush Doll draws inspiration from the classic Garden Tiger Moth, Arctia caja, a species known across North America and Europe for its dramatic contrast and bold inner wings.
Unlike the rare yellow variation, this version embraces the strong red tones people usually associate with the species. Dark forewings create contrast, while the inner wings introduce that sudden flash of color. Because of this balance, the moth feels energetic yet grounded.
Just as in the wild, no two Garden Tiger Moths share the same pattern. Therefore, each Red Garden Tiger Moth Plush Doll features a one-of-a-kind wing design. I shape and arrange every marking individually instead of repeating a template. As a result, your moth will always be unique.
For this series, I extended the pattern to the inner side of the wings as well. When you lift them, the hidden markings become part of the visual story rather than a blank surface. This added detail gives the moth more depth and makes the movement more satisfying to watch.
I sculpt the wings, eyes, and legs by hand from polymer clay. Then I construct the body on a dense felted sintepon core and cover it in plush faux fur. Because the legs allow gentle adjustment, you can slightly change the posture and expression.
The Red Garden Tiger Moth Plush Doll feels theatrical, warm, and tactile. It captures the familiar spirit of Arctia caja, yet it translates it into something soft, dimensional, and personal.
